[This night sky is the exact size]

This night sky is the exact size
of my sadness;  a sadness that
has grown accustomed to itself

over time,   comfortable and at
home, settled  in among the stars
that carry  lost children home —

tied to its  past,  now like the teacher
and the  student sitting cross  legged
across from each other, counting

breaths within the fading sound
of the temple bell.
